Rainy walks are easier to manage when the clean-up starts before your dog moves through the house. The aim is to remove loose dirt, dry around the feet and check that nothing uncomfortable has been picked up on the route.
Set up before the walk
Leave clean water, a Paw Rinse Cup and a towel beside the door. Put them where you can reach them without asking your dog to wait on a slippery floor. See the complete Wet Walk Routine.
Pause and look first
Before rinsing, look for grit, small stones or plant material between the toes and around the pads. If you notice a cut, persistent redness, swelling or something embedded in the paw, do not use a cleaning cup. Contact a veterinary professional for advice.
Rinse one paw at a time
Add clean water to the cup. Guide one paw through the silicone insert and move the cup gently rather than forcing or twisting the leg. Lift the paw clear, check the result and change the water when it becomes dirty. Stop if your dog shows distress.
Dry with control
Use a clean towel around the paw, between the toes and up the lower leg. With the Double-Hand Drying Towel, slide one hand into each pocket on the same towel. Press and pat rather than pulling at the fur.
Reset the equipment
Empty and rinse the cup, allow it to air dry and deal with the damp towel straight away. A Wet Walk Bag can keep damp gear together briefly, but it should be unpacked after the walk and is not intended for liquids.
